Thirtynine Mile Mountain
Adventure with Stefanie Skidmore of Wild Horse Outreach & Advocacy, in some of the most beautiful country in Colorado. Join her as she will take you on a gorgeous ride on the north side of Thirtynine Mile Mountain with views of Eleven Mile Reservoir and surrounding mountains. This ride is for advanced riders only.
Wild Horse Outreach & Advocacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping wild horses transition from wild to willing, from holding pens to loving homes. Sustainably, with compassion and competence. They offer gentled Mustangs for adoption to suitable homes, also offering guidance to current and prospective adopters and owners of Mustangs.
Location: Thirtynine Mile Mountain- County Road 59, Guffey CO (exact location coordinates to come for the meeting spot)
Description: for advanced riders only, parking in small lot or alongside the road. Maximum 4 participants. Beautiful scenery and views, a good workout for a healthy, fit horse and enjoyable ride for an experienced, confident rider. Elevation around 8600ft.
What to expect on the trail: water and mud crossings possible depending on how wet of a year it has been, cattle and wildlife on the trail possible, single track, off trail, some two track with trees, rocky terrain and some steep stretches. These are not developed, marked or manicured trails. Riders must be able to keep themselves and their horses safe around low branches, near barbed wire fences and around cattle. Riders must be comfortable at a walk, trot and lope and able to control their horse in a group setting on difficult footing.
What to bring: Protection against flies, sun and rain is advised. Bring plenty of water and a lunch. Horses need to either be used to going barefoot in rocky terrain or be shod/wear boots. No dogs on this ride. There will be an opportunity to water the horses during the ride from a spring fed stock tank. No water or facilities at the trail head, please plan accordingly.
Details: 9am arrival, introductions, tack up and ready to hit the trial by 10am. Expect 4-5 hours for this ride.
