Wow! 2018 is moving fast, but it has been a great year so far! At the beginning of February we had our first Open House & Adoption Day. This is an event that we will be hosting the first Saturday of every month throughout the year. Even if you aren’t in the market for a mustang (yet), we would love to have you out to the ranch for a visit! It is a family friendly event. We also offer discounted sanctuary herd tours and welcome you to come out and have a picnic lunch and enjoy the land. So if you missed us this time, then catch us next month!
We have some really exciting things in the works here at Great Escape, but we can’t quite release them yet so stay tuned! Thank you for your willingness to give to the mustangs and endlessly supporting our mission.Happy Valentine’s Day! Give your horses some extra love and treats.
Love,

SWAT is an on-range program of The Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary & Training Center, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Since 2012, we are the only working model of collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management for the successful management of the horses both on and off the range. Each year we strive to make the range better for the wild ones and rally the support these horses need. This year for 2018, we are making a few changes to our program and improving membership services that we hope you will enjoy, all in the spirit of successfully supporting the wild horses that inspire is all!

“Diamond in the Rough”
a forever home?!
Meet Indigo! We don’t quite know how this beautiful lady hasn’t been adopted… We suppose the Universe has a perfect match just waiting her and it just isn’t quite the right time.
Indigo is a very special mare available for adoption. She is super stout, built strong, and 100% sound. Indigo is quite gentle and going nicely under saddle. Indigo has no buck/bite/kick. She is a very confident mare and not afraid of anything. She would make an excellent trail horse or kids horse with a bit of a training refresher. Indigo has been exposed to several man-made obstacles as well as real world trail experience. She jumps, crosses water, powers up and down hills, stands unfazed with horses running around her, opens gates, etc. She loads in a trailer nicely, stands for the farrier/vet, and has no vices. She is comfortable in a herd setting.
She is TITLED and adopters are not subject to BLM approval.
$2500 Adoption Fee

“SURMA ARRIVED AT GEMS”
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
to everyone who sponsored Surma’s return!
In a very short time, Surma has shown our trainer how badly he would like to have a home! He is showing to be super gentle, quiet, and willing. In only two days he has been happily haltered, led, brushed all over, and is picking up his front feet.
Surma is a big teddy bear of a Mustang. He is 14.3hh and stout, stout, stout! He may not look like much at the moment with, but he will shine up like a new penny once the mud comes out of his coat, and his chewed mane/tail grow back.
Surma will be 4 years old this year and is from Sand Wash Basin. He is available for adoption from Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary in Deer Trail, CO for $500.
Email Stephanie for more info about adoption: Storefront@greatescapesanctuary.org
Many of you have been following Lucy’s story on facebook, but if you missed it please take the time to read about Michelle’s experience with a Kill Buyer and Lucky Lucy’s story!
When she first arrived to Little Hawk Ranch she enjoyed letting loose in her pasture, making friends with the horses across the road and is very perplexed by the neighboring llamas…
Lucy made it to GEMS early last week, but was still in quarantine… BUT THIS WEEK, Lucy was released from quarantine with a clean bill of health!
She got to join one of our little groups of horses and is happy to be able to kick up her heels and socialize with some fellow mustangs! Stay tuned for updates on Lucky Lucy.
She is such a sweetheart!

Join Mustang Maddy for her first ever Running Wild Retreat to discover firsthand the incredible potential of American mustangs and the talents found within yourself.
Partnering with the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary, Maddy will select 6 untouched, wild horses to teach participants to use her unique process for gentling wild horses that promotes connection and respect instead of fear or force.
Receive one-on-one personalized instruction from Maddy for 7 days of intensive, hands-on work. Instruction is all-inclusive, starting with achieving the first touches all the way to trailer loading and preparing to ride. Maddy’s program is built on trust, free will and two-way communication; in just 7 days, you’ll discover how to build a relationship with a wild horse without flooding, trauma or force.
Though founded on Maddy’s experiences with mustangs, these methods are also valuable to rescue and rehabilitation projects, colt starting and even high levels of performance riding.
Throughout the week, you’ll be fully immersed in the wild horse experience! Enjoy a personal cabin situated on 1,000 acres of sanctuary pasture and home to bands of wild horses. Evening activities include Western dancing, wild horse tours and trail rides.
At the end of the 7 full days of learning, will be final celebration on Saturday which will include a live auction and showcase to help place these mustangs in suitable homes. Bidding will be open to the public and all proceeds will go toward The Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary.
