Horses out of holding and our model at work!
Since we initiated our partnership with the Mustang Heritage Foundation and the Bureau of Land Management for off-range support for wild horses in May 2016, we have successfully brought over 70 horses through our facility. Whether through our own training program or through the TIP Storefront, where Colorado TIP Trainers have stepped up and stepped out, we are working together and making a massive difference in these horses lives.
At the same time, our on-the-range support program, The Sand Wash Advocate Team, has been working tremendously hard with the BLM to ensure a productive and safe bait and trap gather in Sand Wash Basin. The goal being to bring a select group of 50 horses off the range and to GEMS for training, adoption and/or sanctuary. This is a herd management area that has the appropriate management level between 165-362, with currently over 600 horses. In combination with fertility control efforts, small bait and trap gathers and working on increasing the AML, we will come to a wonderful balance for the Sand Wash herd over the next few years…working together for the horses.
