Volunteers can help the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program to promote adoptions of wild horses and burros and to educate the public about these amazing animals. There are many ways to volunteer, here is one of them!
BLM Compliance Check Training Day- lead by Stephen Leonard, BLM Canon City Facility Manager/Colorado WH&B Off Range Lead
August 26, 2017 (11am-1pm)
This is a demanding, but important, volunteer opportunity for the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse & Burro Program. Compliance checks involve communicating with adopters and informing them of any areas of non-compliance; helping to correct any problems; and arranging follow-up inspections. Volunteers also work closely with compliance officers to generate compliance reports.
What volunteers can expect to learn:
- rules and regulations associated with wild horse adoptions
- how to properly assess body condition of a horse
- how to assess facility requirements associated with wild horse adoptions
