Thank you Sharron.
We lost an incredible pioneer, teacher, mentor and friend yesterday. Sharron Scheikofsky was an inspiration to me from the day I met her. A wonderfully strong and confident woman, so knowledgable in her craft. The craft of Spanish Mustang Preservation…more specifically for Sharron, saving the significant Portuguese Sorraia-Type Spanish Mustang.
I guess I can blame it all on Adam Edwards…I went to Caballos de Destino, originally in support of Adam gathering our first load of Spanish Mustangs that Sharron and Dave had donated to us to grow our herd. Not really sure of any differences from the Mustang that I knew so well, the American Mustang. We traveled out to the many pastures they had with different herds of horses and families. We sat in their kitchen, Dave reading old stories aloud and Sharron pulling out more, from the stacks and shelves full of books, opening them up to show me historical photos detailing the uniqueness of their ancient conformation. We were so immersed in our conversations that time and dinner escaped us every time.
Those trips to South Dakota were some of the most life changing trips I’ve taken and I am a different person because of it. As we were packed up and ready to head back home from picking up our second load of horses, I made a promise to the two of them that I would do what I could to show people the beauty and importance of these horses. The last trip I took out, we picked up a filly, one who’s momma we already had at the ranch, it had been important to me to bring my boys out to meet Sharron and Dave, my mother even came along for the ride. Three more lives changed and better than when they came…the spirit, the love, the passion and the joy for these horses so apparent and passed along to all in their presence.
There is a difference in the mindfulness, the spirit, the intuition, the presence and the conformation of a Spanish Mustang. As the original Mustang, they bring an ancient wisdom, calm energy and grounded confidence. The American Mustang carries similar traits, how can they not coming from the Spanish Mustang? However, the purity of the root is witnessed in the originator.
The visitors that come to the ranch remark consistantly, these horses are unique, they are special, they are amazing and incredible…just like Sharron.
And yes, it was all Adam’s fault and I couldn’t be more grateful.
