With over 50,000 wild horses in short-term and long-term holding facilities nationwide and close to 73,000 in the wild, when Appropriate Management Levels are called to be closer to 27,000, something different has to be done.  Each year, more and more wild horses are captured in the United States and not only are the holding facilities not an ideal life for a wild horse, but they are also filling up quickly.  Then what?

The number of wild horses in holding could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted mustangs. When you adopt, you save a loving mustang by making them part of your family and open up space for another mustang who might desperately need it.

Sanctuaries and rescue groups are brimming with happy, healthy mustangs just waiting for someone to take them home. Many are already partially to fully trained and used to being around people.  The trainer that has been working with the different horses will be able to pair you with a mustang that is great for your lifestyle.

A mustang’s adoption fee is only $125!  And if you adopt through us at GEMS or an approved TIP Trainer, you will be receiving a mustang that is already halter trained, will trailer load and stand for the vet and farrier…an extra bonus for Adopters!

The holding facilities are running out of space and the wild herds keep reproducing without any large natural predators to slow them down.  We unfortunately, as a nation, are battling for the rights for these wild natives, but if all of us adopt a mustang or 5 then we might defy the odds against us, horse lovers.

Mustangs have hard hooves, are use to harsh weather and have strong immune systems.  Thanks to ‘survival of the fittest’ and ‘natural selection’, nature has helped them become some of the most rugged and sturdy horses out there!
